George Balabushka passed away in 1975, a profound loss not only for his family and friends but also for the entire billiards community. However, his legacy endures through the many innovations he brought to cue manufacturing and beyond. His name became synonymous with top-quality pool cues, especially after the iconic scene in the 1986 film The Color of Money, where Paul Newman's character presents Tom Cruise with a stunning cue, stating, “It’s a Balabushka.” David Forman, founder of Adam Custom Cues, later licensed the Balabushka name from George’s family. Today, the trademarked name is owned by Peggy Mallen, who continues to produce a line of cues under the Balabushka brand, honoring one of the most influential figures in modern billiards.
